Kyushu League
The three main contenders for the 2007 Kyushu League title all picked up their expected wins on Sunday - but they all found the points a little harder to come by than expected. Current leaders New Wave Kitakyushu beat Kagoshima's Osumi NIFS United just 1-0, Honda Lock went only one better against lowly Kaiho Bank SC and V Varen Nagasaki sensationally trailed 1-0 at half-time against the league's real minnows, the Fukuoka University students of Nanakuma Tombies.

V Varen fought back after the break to squeeze home 3-2, but such a scoreline can hardly have boosted the confidence of the pre-season favourites who currently lie outside the top two - and therefore may well miss out on a vital promotion play-off place. But the league's in-form team are Volca Kagoshima, whose 5-0 thrashing of Okinawa Kariyushi was their sixth consecutive win, although admittedly these have all been against the weaker teams in the region. In the fifth match of the round, Nippon Steel Oita managed only a penalty shoot-out win over Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Nagasaki after a 1-1 draw.
