The Hokkaido League title race for 2006 was blown wide open in round 6 on Sunday, as frontrunners Norbritz Hokkaido were victims of a shock 2-1 home defeat by Toyota Motors Hokkaido. This was a third consecutive win for Toyota, who despite narrowly avoiding relegation last year have now moved up into third position, two points behind Norbritz and one behind second-placed Blackpecker Hakodate, 5-3 winners over ACSC Asahikawa. Sapporo Football Group missed an opportunity to close the gap on the championship hopefuls when they were held to a 1-1 draw at Tokachi Fairsky, while the match between the two mid-table sides saw Barefoot Hokkaido beat Thank FC 1-0.
