Tohoku League Division 2 (South)
Division 2 (South) of the Tohoku League is heading for an unexpectedly exciting climax, as a result of a remarkable run of success from Northern Peaks Koriyama. Two narrow mid-season defeats by front-runners Marysol Matsushima and Furukawa Battery had apparently ruled them out of the promotion race for this year, but since that time Northern Peaks have won six on the trot, rattling in no fewer than 35 goals in the process. Their latest triumph was scarcely unexpected, coming as it did against a Kureha Chemicals side who have lost all ten of their fixtures so far, but it means that Koriyama are now pushing Marysol and Furukawa for the single promotion play-off place. The issue of games in hand is a crucial one - Furukawa have three, Koriyama two and Marysol only one - but Furukawa must play both of their rivals by the end of this month and anything could happen.
