JFL Players On The Move
A couple of JFL transfers to report on, with Sagawa Kyubin Tokyo's 25-year-old defender Kosuke Iwase making the move up north to Tohoku League champions TDK Akita. Former Tochigi SC forward Yoshikatsu Nakamura has meanwhile signed for Hokkaido League winners Norbritz Hokkaido.

Tohoku League Division 1
TDK Akita's scheduled Tohoku League Division 1 match last weekend with NEC Tokin was postponed due to the champions' participation in the Emperor's Cup, but that aside there was a programme of three fixtures. Second place Grulla Morioka managed a comfortable enough 3-0 win over Sendai Nakata Club, - but the season is well and truly over for Grulla, twice defeated by TDK and now under threat as far as their very existence is concerned, from emerging team FC Ganju Iwate. Neighbours Morioka Zebra are finding 2006 tough going as well and slumped to the foot of the table following their 2-1 defeat by Fukushima's FC Primeiro . Nippon Steel Kamaishi jumped two places to sixth as a result of what was only their second win of the year against Wiese Shiogama.

Tohoku League Division 2 (North)
A full programme of matches in the Tohoku League Division 2 (North) on Sunday, with leaders FC Akita Cambiare maintaining their record of having won every match this year as they crushed struggling TDK Shinwakai. In second place are still Mizusawa United Club, narrow victors over Vanraure Hachinohe, while Tono Club have two games in hand in third following their win over Hokuto Bank. Continuing their current excellent form, however, are Fuji Club 2003, undefeated in five matches and with three wins on the run as they overcame Aster Aomori 5-0.

Tokai League Division 2
Honda Suzuka confirmed their promotion from the Tokai League Division 2 on Sunday with a 3-1 win at Nagoya Club that means they will accompany Kasugai Club up to the top flight. Precisely who will be the champions will be confirmed this coming weekend, when the two contenders encounter each other in their final fixture of the season, although thanks to Kasugai's slip-up in only claiming a draw at home to Mind House TC, it is Honda who currently lie in pole position. At the other end of the table, meanwhile, Morishin's FC have given themselves a fighting chance of staying up if they can win their last two games away at Mind House and Kasugai, following on from their 3-1 defeat of FC Kawasaki - it's Fuyo Club who will be hoping that they fail to get the required three-goal win.

Tohoku League Division 2 (South)
Marysol Matsushima charged back to the top of the Tohoku League Division 2 (South) on Sunday with a 7-0 drubbing of FC Perada Fukushima. This enabled them to take advantage of a shock slip-up by their title rivals Furukawa Battery, who could only manage a draw at mid-table Shichigahama SC. Northern Peaks Koriyama seem to be building for a promotion challenge next season, but for now strengthened their grip on third place as they crushed Kanai Club 8-2.

Shikoku League
The Shikoku League remains on a collision course as Nangoku Kochi and Kamatamare Sanuki seem likely to take their fight for the championship right down to the last match of the season at the end of October, when the two face each other in what amounts to a title play-off. Kamatamare might have led from the start of the year, but they needed a goal five minutes from time by star striker Hiroshi Ueta to complete a crucial victory over Sanyo Electric Tokushima that was played out in from of an impressive crowd of 600. But reigning champions Nangoku are evidently unwilling to concede their crown, as evidenced by their hard-fought 2-1 defeat of Ehime Shimanami that keeps them just two points behind Kamatamare and with a superior goal difference. Things are just as exciting at the other end of the table, where Alex SC jumped out of the relegation play-off places via a 2-1 win over Sanwa Club, while rivals Ventana AC slipped up as they went down 3-1 to Tokushima Vortis Amateur.

Chugoku League
There were a couple of postponements in the Chguoku League on Sunday, in part as a result of FC Central Chugoku's involvement in the Emperor's Cup, but Fagiano Okayama took the opportunity to stretch their lead at the top of the table to six points with a 9-0 thrashing of hapless JFE Steel. With a crowd nearing 7000 at their home city's Momotaro Stadium, Fagiano's new Brazilian striker Jefferson chipped in with four goals, while JFE have now conceded no fewer than nineteen times in their last two matches. It was Sagawa Kyubin Chugoku who were their previous conquerors a couple of weeks ago, and Sagawa continued their good run of form to move second in the table - although they did need to come from behind in beating relegation-threatened Iwami SC 4-2.

Hokkaido League
The 2006 Hokkaido League season came to a conclusion on Sunday, but with Norbritz Hokkaido already crowned as champions and ACSC Asahikawa certain to fill the single automatic relegation spot, attention was on the three sides vying to avoid a seventh place finish and a relegation play-off. Toyota Motors Hokkaido - who occupied seventh in 2005 - did themselves a huge favour with a 2-1 win over Sapporo Football Group to rise above the other contenders. Defeated at home by ACSC Tokachi Fairsky might have been - but it didn't matter in the end, because Thank FC were also beaten by Norbritz and so concluded the campaign with one point fewer than Tokachi, meaning that Thank will need to play off to retain their Regional League status. In the other fixture, Barefoot Hokkaido made sure of the runners up position as they overcame Blackpecker Hakodate.

Tohoku League Division 2 (North)
Two massive wins in the pair of Tohoku League Division 2 (North) fixtures to report on from the weekend, although neither impacted on FC Akita Cambiare and their seemingly unstoppable march to the promotion play-off place. In third sport now, though, behind Cambiare and Mizusawa United Club, are Hokuto Bank after a 9-2 thrashing of an Aster Aomori side who must simply be wishing that this season would finish immediately. Perhaps even more remarkable than that scoreline, however, was Vanraure Hachinohe's nine-goal win over Tono Club, which puts league newcomers Vanraure up into fourth while knocking the shell-shocked Tono into the bottom half of the table.

Tokai League Division 2
Fuyo Club finished their Tokai League Division 2 campaign at the weekend with a draw at Konica Minolta Toyokawa that may not quite be enough to keep them out of the relegation zone. Morishin's FC are six points behind with two games to play and despite not having won for five matches could still pull off a shock, given that they have to play wooden-spooners FC Kawasaki and the inconsistent MInd House TC. The biggest fixture still remaining in this division is the final day head-to-head between front-runners Kasugai Club and Honda Suzuka on 8th October, which seems likely to determine who wins the title this year.

Sun 17 Sep: Konica Minolta Toyokawa 1-1 Fuyo Club

1 Kasugai Club 25 (+14)
2 Honda Suzuka 25 (+6)
3 Konica Minolta Toyokawa 21 (+8)

Tokai League Division 1
Stacks of goals in the three Tokai League Division 1 fixtures over the weekend, which have confirmed the relegation of Chukyo University along with ACM Central. Fujieda City Hall's spectacular 4-4 draw with Yazaki Valente on Saturday combined with Chukyo's defeat by Shizuoka FC the following day means that Fujieda are five points off the drop zone with only one match remaining. ACM meanwhile picked up only their second point of the season with, remarkably, another eight-goal drawn match against mid-table Maruyasu Industry.

Tohoku League Division 2 (South)
Kanai Club recovered well on Sunday from their last two Tohoku League Division 2 (South) results - both 7-0 annihilations by leaders Furukawa Battery - to defeat FC Perada Fukushima 5-2 and consolidate their mid-table position comfotably clear of the relegation zone. Kureha Chemicals look as if they are headed for the play-off to remain in Regional football, as they have yet to take a point in eight matches this season after having conceded six to Shichigahama SC.

Shikoku League
This weekend is Emperor's Cup first round day in Japan, which means that there is very limited Regional League action and indeed there are no JFL fixtures. However, the Shikoku League has seen one crucial rearranged match take place, with title challengers Nangoku Kochi in action against Sanyo Electric Tokushima. And star striker Yohei Ueta chipped in with a hat-trick in a 4-0 win that closes the gap on leaders Kamatamare Sanuki to two points. It now seems more certain than ever that the destination of the title will be decided by the clash between Nangoku and Kamatamare at the end of October.

Sun 17 Sep: Sanyo Electric Tokushima 0-4 Nangoku Kochi

1 Kamatamare Sanuki 30 (+30)
2 Nangoku Kochi 28 (+39)

Changes To Regional League - JFL Promotion
There's been a key modification in the process of promotion from the Regional Leagues to the JFL for the end of the current season. The top team in the end-of-year Regional League Championship Winners' Play-off competition will be automatically promoted, while the second-place club will enter a play-off with the bottom team in the JFL itself - likely to be Honda Lock. However, that second-place team will also be automatically promoted if Rosso Kumamoto succeed in gaining a place in the J-League.
Sagawa United!
JFL corporate high-flyers Sagawa Kyubin Osaka and Sagawa Kyubin Tokyo have announced their intention to merge into a single team for the 2007 season. There is no indication yet as to whether the new team will explicitly aim for J-League membership, but given that both clubs are performing well this year, it's fairly safe to assume that a combined outfit will be at the very least a genuine competitive force within the third tier of Japanese club football.

The new club, excitingly to be named Sagawa Kyubin SC, will be based in Moriyama City in Shiga prefecture, where the company has a stadium facility. Firm decisions about the coaching and playing staff will not be made until the current JFL campaign winds up at the beginning of December.
All-Japan Shakaijin - 1st Round Draw
The draw has been announced for the first round of the 2006 All-Japan Shakaijin Tournament, to be staged in Akita prefecture during mid-October. This is the major cup competition for clubs lower than the JFL in the Japanese pyramid system and indeed dates back to the mid-60s, when it was used as a means of achieving qualification into the fledgling Japan Soccer League. Now, of course, equivalent progression occurs via a separate Regional League Championship Winners' Play-off competition, but with most of the competitors for the latter already known, there is a sense that Shakaijin, as well as being a prestigious enough tournament in its own right, provides something of a dress rehearsal for the real deal at the end of November.

And with that in mind, there are some big-name clashes in the first round to look out for. FC Gifu, for example, are one of the more ambitious and better-organised clubs to have reached the Regional play-offs, but as a new team have rarely had the opportunity to pit their wits against sides from outside their Tokai region. Their match with Kyushu's strong Nippon Steel Oita will give them an early taste of something approaching the required standard, while another Kyushu outfit, New Wave Kitakyushu, must overcome Hokushinetsu League champions Japan Soccer College if they are to make any further progress. FC Mi-o Biwako Kusatsu from Kansai are another team who have already qualified for the Regional play-off and it is highly likely that their first round Shakaijin opponents, Fagiano Okayama from Chugoku, will be joining them.

The minnows of the competition in this context are undoubtedly those clubs that compete below Regional level, of whom there are two. FC Nishiomiya A, from Kansai, take on Kanto League Division 2 strugglers All-Kamisu SC - but must face the winners between Nippon Steel Oita and FC Gifu if they're able to get through to the next round. Kanto's Tonan SC Gunma, meanwhile, have a hard match against Shizuoka FC ahead of them and are scheduled to take on either Ain Food or Shikoku League champion-elect Kamatamare Sanuki if they do manage to cause an upset.

The full list of first round ties is as follows:

FC Akita Cambiare continue to see off allcomers in the Tohoku League Division 2 (North) and their 100% record from the start of the season now stretches to ten games following their 1-0 defeat of second-placed Mizusawa United Club. With three games in hand on the leading pair, Tono Club remain third despite losing at Fuji Club 2003, but perhaps the most significant result of the day saw Aster Aomori beat - and so overtake in the rankings - TDK Shinwakai in the battle to avoid the relegation play-off position.

Tokai League Division 2
Two rounds to go now in the Tokai League Division 2 and the key promotion and relegation issues are almost tied up. Honda Suzuka did themselves a major favour by beating Fuyo Club to move five points clear in the second promotion spot. Tokai League Division 1
FC Gifu are confirmed as Tokai League Division 1 champions - a fact that the men in green celebrated on Saturday with a 6-0 drubbing of bottom-of-the-table ACM Central that included a hat-trick from striker Atsushi Katagiri, formerly with troubled JFL outfit Arte Takasaki. All this leaves the efforts of Shizuoka FC in vain, although the 2005 champions' 4-1 defeat of Yazaki Valente does serve to indicate the extent to which they and Gifu are superior to the other teams in the division. Elsewhere, Maruyasu Industry won the mid-table battle against fellow company side Sagawa Kyubin Chukyo, but Fujieda City Hall gained a vital win in the relegation match at Chukyo University to boost their hopes of staying up.

Chugoku League
There was a remarkable series of results in the Chugoku League on Sunday, no fewer than 24 goals being scored in the four games. Leaders Fagiano Okayama remain in front following their 7-2 hammering of relegation-threatened Iwami SC, FC Central Chugoku keeping up their challenge with a 4-1 win over Hiroshima Fujita SC. But although Sagawa Kyubin Chugoku rattled in an astonishing 10-0 thrashing of JFE Steel, the only match that brought about a move in the rankings was Renofa Yamaguchi's 0-0 draw with Hitachi Manufacturing Kasado. Hitachi's win in the subsequent penalty shoot-out enabled them to go above Fujita on goal difference as the fight to move away from the relegation zone intensified.
